Bacon Salt: The Movie

Who hasn’t wanted to make everything they eat taste like bacon?

It takes cojones to drink out of this

July 24th, 2008

People in Argentina love meat. They barbecue like nobody’s business. Only there, it’s called an asado. They also apparently have a very peculiar custom of drinking a hot beverage called maté, which can only be described as rather “earthy”. It’s said to have a lot of health benefits, none of which outweigh the taste, however. And how do they drink it? Out of a hollowed out vegetable, wrapped in the hairy skin of a bull’s cojones, of course. How do we know this? Because our programmer Emanuel is Argentinian, and he sent this to us as a gift. He calls it the “Ferrari of Maté”. We named it Fernando. We can’t thank you enough, mate.

I’d appreciate it if you could bring meat, beer, condiments, paper goods, and all the guests to a BBQ I’m throwing

Welcome to summer. Just a quick post to say we hope all your BBQs are an astounding success!

Burger Kings (Kings County, that is)

June 24th, 2008

This comes to us by way of Time Out New York, one of our favourite foodie mags. So, there’s this Aussie bloke Shawn Connell, who set himself up real nice in his own corner of Brooklyn, New York.

You can read all about his rooftop barbie setup here. We especially liked the recipe for Aussie Burgers.

How to: Make an Aussie burger

Connell prefers using ground lamb and “heaps of herbs” for his patties. He suggests piling toppings such as grilled pineapple rings, sliced beets, bacon, cheddar cheese, avocado, red onions, tomatoes, lettuce and a fried egg in between two very sturdy buns.
